Meaghan Meehan, MSW, LSW
Hoffman Estates Licensed Social Worker
Through my work as a therapist, I am committed to helping people navigate, manage, and overcome myriad difficulties we are presented with in life. We all struggle with depression, anxiety, and copious other stresses that affect all of us at some time in our lives. These struggles can be difficult to manage, and as a result, it can even begin to impact other aspects of our lives, such as school, work, or our relationships. This is not uncommon. It is exceptionally normal for us to experience hardships, and you do not have to face these challenges alone. I believe that therapy is a collaborative endeavor, and as such, I tend to employ a strengths-based approach, where my clients and I can work together to establish their goals for treatment. This approach allows for a variety of methods, in order to create a tailored approach for each individual and situation, rather than adopting one methodology for all individuals and issues. This way, my clients play an active role in their treatment, draw on their strengths, assets, and resiliency, and facilitate their own growth and change over the course of their journey. As a therapist, I strive to maintain an honest and caring environment, without judgment, where my clients feel comfortable, safe, and welcome. I consider myself a therapist who is warm, open, encouraging, and direct, with a down-to-earth, realistic approach to therapy.
I am primarily a school social worker, having worked with students ranging from high school to elementary age. My specialties include adolescents, anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, school refusal, mood disorders, ASD, and behavior issues. Working in schools, I have worked with students in both the general and special education population, numerous students with IEPs and 504s, as well as many students in specialized programs. As a school social worker, my role is to assist in facilitating increased communication between home and school, to counsel kids at school both individually and in groups, and to help parents with strategies that they can use at home with their kids. Much of this can be translated into my work in the private practice setting.
I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in the state of Illinois. I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) from Loyola University Chicago, where I specialized in School Social Work. I also hold a Professional Educator License (PEL) with a school social work endorsement in the state of Illinois. I earned my Bachelor of Arts (BA) from DePaul University, where I majored in Psychology, in the Human Services concentration, and minored in Sociology.
