Chelsea Alarcon, LPC
Lakeview Chicago IL Counselor
My name is Chelsea and I received an M.A. in Clinical-Counseling Psychology from Illinois State University. My clinical experience has led to enjoyable and therapeutic relationships with people of all types. I began my career working in a community mental health agency in Bloomington, Illinois. At that time, I worked with teenagers, couples, and adults.
I also have experience working in settings such as employee assistance programs and crisis stabilization programs for children and teens. During my time working in those settings, I gained experience helping people and their families gain resilience and strength through some of the most challenging and stressful moments in their lives. When I worked in a crisis program for youth, I worked with several clients who identified as LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming (GNC), many of whom were working on identity issues and the coming out process. I currently work with LGBTQ+ adults in the private practice setting.
I identify as a creative person (specifically a writer and a crafter). I am open to using other modalities to treatment than just talking, such as expressive writing or art interventions, if this is of interest to my client. Also, I am aware of the anxieties and frustrations that may come with creative performance and sharing creative works for those in such fields. I have worked with individuals in the performing arts fields to help them toward their goals for their career and working through any barriers to doing creative works or sharing their works.
My approach to counseling is compassionate and integrative of several different frameworks such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, solution-focused, expressive/art therapy, humanistic, existential, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I adapt my approach to therapy to match the needs of the person I am working with. I believe that once a person builds a relationship with the therapist that feels collaborative, safe, and accepting, people can explore many new things about themselves, talk about their hopes and dreams for life, and talk about how to address barriers to being their most authentic, healthy version of themselves.
I like to create an environment for growth and change. To schedule an appointment with me, call (888) 870-1775.
