Angelo in Chicago: "In working with Scott he has guided me through a deep inquiry about myself which has given me the ability to pursue what is most important to me in both career and family."

Individual therapy

We provide help with a wide range of issues, including (but not limited to):

Note: These therapy areas are also sometimes explored as part of marriage therapy and family therapy as the need arises.

How multiple conditions can impact each other?

The Director, Scott Terry's doctorate focused on people who are gifted or talented and have learning difficulties. So he is used to dealing with people who have more than one issue. For example, someone might be bipolar but also be recovering from abuse and currently have communication difficulties in their relationships, and concerns about work or school, while discovering who they really are in life, and who they are choosing to become.

Many of us grow up with parts of us that become very proficient at various educational and life concerns, while parts of us lag behind. We have Attention Deficit Disorder but are very bright. Or we may have learning issues or Asperger's Syndrome but excel in academics or the arts. This often results in many difficulties in the way we feel about ourselves and then how we function in the world.

Scott has had cases where the individual experienced abuse, abandonment, adoption, re-traumatization, and educational issues, with a host of psychological and psychiatric conditions that all seemed to then mask and change each other.

Your condition does not have to be so extreme, but often it might be difficult to sort out which condition is which, what to work on, and how. We have worked out the best ways to deal with multiple issues.

Grounding your spirituality

You might be consciously working on evolving yourself, but have resulting stresses that you might not even be aware of. You might feel a personal connection with a higher power, but still you may be challenged by how to maintain healthy relationships or even how to appropriately raise your kids. It's as if part of you excels, while part of you is still left behind struggling while you are focused on higher goals. Just because you are evolving doesn't mean you don't have issues to work on that affect your day to day functionality.

Or conversely you might also be wanting to connect to higher aspects of yourself but feel blocked from being able to do so because of the issues from your past, or what is going on with you today.

Medical conditions which affect psychological or family related concerns

Many medical conditions affect our mind. And many psychological issues affect our bodies. The mind-body connection is not some cosmic or new age hype – it is part of how we negotiate dealing with living in a body.

Work, school and life transitions

Throughout our life we experience school issues, work issues, relationships starting and ending, illnesses, the passing of loved ones and many other challenges that we all go through.

As we go through these life-changing experiences, the difficulties that arise are from over-attachment to the various events and how we give these events meaning or lack of meaning in our lives. Our goal in helping you is to be able to negotiate how life changes around you and within you in a more coherent comfortable smooth manner.
